Sunday run-day roundup from Deal Tri – 25/05/2025

Sunday run-day roundup from Deal Tri.

First out of the blocks were Nikki and Larry Smith, in the Meydan 5k this morning. Nikki came 2nd in her age group – incredible given that it was 30 degrees at 5am!

At a much cooler Folkestone 10k, known for an assertive headwind, the Club were well represented by 14 runners, all of them finishing in under 1 hour. Tina Barton finished second in her age group and Sophie Garton secured a personal best time, depite the wind. Amazing work, everyone.

Alex Dack ran in the elite mens Comeback 5000 at the Millennium Arena Battersea Park on Friday. Despite not racing this distance much so far, he ran an amazing 14.49.17 and got a load of experience of mixing it with the seniors and pacing. Interesting to note that last years female elite was won by Georgia Bell, who’s gone on to win bronze at the Olympics. Well done, Alex!

Staying with track, Toby Smith did his first track event on Monday, the Invicta Open 3k. It seems to suit him as he came first. Congratulations!

Going out into the wilds now, with Tony Ansell and Karen Ash taking part in the Northiam 8.5k trail run. Karen came in as the first female finisher – well done to you both.

Some of the members, who are also regular marshalls at events, had a free first aid course from club member Abi Darrall. These are important skills when you’re out and about – thanks, Abi.

That’s it for now. As always, if you’d like to know more, get in touch 🧡
