Run report from Deal Tri member Pete Lodge: “So this weekend I had a couple of trips up to Medway Park to take part in the Kent County Masters Athletics Championships running the 100m and 200m M40 events to satiate a curiosity about how fast I could still run, brought on by starting doing a few Wednesday track sessions and chatting with a club mate who knows me from school. The 200 was the first up on Saturday and was the first time I’d taken part in an athletics event since 2016. Without doing anything more than a few practice starts and run throughs at one of the club track sessions, I clearly wasn’t as prepped as the other competitors who seemed to know what they were doing with proper warm ups and everything. I had no idea whether I could even make the medal standard which was just under 30 seconds for my age group.Anyway, I didn’t feel I ran particularly brilliantly and I was well behind the other competitors, but I was flagging at the end so must have been doing something right. Fortunately for me, of the 4 entrants, there was a non starter and my finishing time of 27.18 was enough to give me a trip to the podium for a bronze medal and I was content to be within a second of my pb.Sunday brought on the 100m. This time I ran much better and kept up with the others more, crossing the line in 13.45 which was well inside medal standard, and with a few more non starters, meant I had another visit to the podium for a silver medal (we’ll gloss over the fact there was only two of us in the category). Now it’s back to usual, getting ready for a couple of halfs next month, although there’s an open event in Canterbury on Saturday afternoon if anyone wants to give it a go”.Congratulations, Pete 🧡
