Sunday runday

Deal Tri members have been out at a variety of events this weekend, so let’s start with with the Rye 10 miler. Tony Ansell and Lee Gavin took part in this surprisingly hilly race, both finishing in the top 15 in their respective age groups.

On the social and training front, we’ve got people training for marathons โ€“ Phoebe Ward is pitching for her first marathon at the Clifftop Challenge, also Ashley Roberts-Moyle โ€“ an ardous,up and down route, finishing on Walmer Green. All proceeds from this event go towards Breast Cancer Now. Jenny Rayment is aiming for Berlin marathon, one of the seven prestigious Abbott World Marathon Majors, to raise money for the Anthony Nolan charity, funding research into blood cancers.

James Gill accepted the invitation to compete as a guest at Loughborough International in the U20 200 metres. James held his own in a really strong field but today wasn’t his day. It gives him experience and exposure in the next level up. His mum Jayne took part in parkrun at Walmer and Deal Seafront and ran with one of our Couch to 5k graduates who has continued running after the 9 week course – excellent ๐Ÿ‘

The Club had a social run out of Northbourne Parish Hall on Sunday morning, with around 20 members choosing between an 8 mile road road, an 8 mile cross country, or a 3-4 mile mixed undulating (hilly!) run. Everyone ends up with a cuppa and cake, whichever route they choose! Nobody gets left behind on these.

John Sharvill travelled the farthest for a run, running the hilly CityTrail Loppet 10k which finishes in the Sculpture Garden, Minneapolis, Minnesota! It’s a cool 9 degrees there today, bit of a change from here, which may have helped John finish in 1hr 3 minutes.

The next social run is this Thursday at 7pm, with a choice of 3, 4 or 5 miles, start point will be posted closer to the day.

You’ll have been seeing these regular updates from the Run section of the Club but not so much from the swimming and cycling, so far. The swimmers are busy all year round, pool training for the competitive season starting in September, or just getting or keeping fit and flexible for an easier later life. It’s sea swimming season now, and unfortunately we are not currently able to offer training sessions for this due to outside constraints. Our cyclists have been out and about, building up mileage now that the sun is out! We’ve got a 10 mile time trial this week which is a great measure of progress.

As always, if you’d like to know more, get in touch ๐Ÿงก
