Pete Hogben at Blenheim and The Lakesman

Two races in two weeks and 4th in age in both of them! Blenheim Palace was the National Sprint Championship race with a drafting bike leg. Pete finished 23rd overall. Great race, well done, Pete!

The Lakesman was the National Middle Distance Championship, and Pete finished 15th overall, even better!! In an amazing 4 hours 16 mins!
He enjoyed the course. The 1900m swim in Derwentwater around the island was a bashing of arms and legs for the first 600m, so many fast swimmers fighting for position. Pete was around 65th out of the water.
After a long run to transition, the 56 mile bike leg was 50k A roads, 40k smaller hilly roads, finishing with 30k flat out down quiet TT perfect roads. Pete made up a load of places and made up more places on the 4 lap 13.1 mile run, especially the last 5k or so as others faded. But he lost a place in the last 2k to the guy that came 3rd in his age group, how annoying! A mix of trail and road, with massive puddles from the thunderstorm the previous night.
Great race Pete! Says he gave it all he could, fought for every position and pleased with how the race went. Very high standard with it being a national champs.
Apparently they are bringing back the full Iron distance next year!
