The Deal 10K race, now in its 42nd year, is called The Dinosaur in fond memory of club co-founder Roger Francis-Darby, who sadly died of skin cancer in 2000. During his competitive running, duathlon, and multisport career he often referred to himself as an old dinosaur (despite being in his mid-50’s) so when he passed away, we changed the name of the Deal Regatta 10k to the Dinosaur 10k.

We give a significant percentage of the profits from the race to the Canterbury Hospital Skin and Dermatology Department each year, as well as donating to the Deal, Walmer and Kingsdown Regatta Association.

Deal Tri would like to thank all the sponsors and entrants who make these donations possible.

Race Number Collection & Registration

Race HQ opens at 0800 for collection of race numbers and registration of on-the-day entries (if available). Your race number must be worn on the front of your shirt only: do not attach your number on your legs or back or you may not receive an accurate time. Please make sure that you do not damage the chip as this may impact your recorded race time.

Please note that only the person to whom the race number is issued may wear that race number. Any unauthorised transfers are strictly prohibited; it is vitally important that we know who is running on the course in the event of a medical emergency.

Please ensure that you complete your medical and emergency contact details on the reverse of your race number and mark the front of your bib with a cross (pens can be found at Race HQ) if you have a medical condition that first aiders should be aware of in the event of an emergency. This is a racing requirement.

Rules And Permits

The event will be run under UKA rules. The race permit, course measurement certificate and risk assessment will be on display at race HQ on the day of the event.

Terms and Conditions here.

Safety

This event is being held in accordance with the requirements for UKA licensing, therefore athletes must not be accompanied by cyclists or dogs on any part of the course. Regrettably the course is not suitable for participants in wheelchairs. All runners are asked to please follow the marshals’ instructions during the race.

Most of the race is held on open roads, therefore it is essential that athletes remain aware of their surroundings at all times. In line with this requirement, the wearing of all headphones, save for the types specifically approved by England Athletics (i.e. bone conducting headphones) is forbidden. If using bone conductors, the volume must be at a level to clearly hear marshalls, other runners and traffic.

Course

Starting on Deal seafront, the course heads south through Walmer and turns inland to circle the undulating borders of the village of Kingsdown before returning to the seafront and heading north for a flat final 4k.

The 10 kilometre out-and-back course distance is certified as accurate (SEAA no 18/058); the surface is tarmac with a 40m section of metalled trail present over the second kilometre. There will be kilometre markers along the route and the race will be fully marshalled: cyclists will precede the lead runner and follow the last runner. All road sections will be open to road traffic, and the seafront will be shared with pedestrians, dog walkers and cyclists.

Drinks

There will be a well-stocked water station at the start/finish, and two further water station located close to the 4km and 7km markers.

First Aid

Margate Ambulance Corps will be in attendance for the duration of the race to provide first aid. Radio communications will be coordinated by Raynet.
