Help Phil Antony Get his Degree
« on: June 15, 2012, 06:39:07 PM »
Past member, top Marathon Runner, Top Cyclist, Triathlete and Duathlete and throughly good bloke, Phil Anthony has sent me this request which I am delighted to pass on for him:

"I'm just about to enter the 3rd year of my degree  at Christ Church University and start my dissertation, I am looking for any possible volunteers and thought this might be of interest to some of the tri club, would you be able to pass this email on to anyone you feel may want to take part.

The Idea is going to be based around body composition (skin fold tests and the bodpod) in males (sorry, no females for this one) that train more than 6 hours a week.  As you may be aware the current method that is most widely used is skin fold tests and involves several measurements of subcutaneous fat at different locations on the body, these are then used to estimate your body fat through a series of equations.  I am going to be looking into whether these equations are suitable for trained male athletes or if they require an adapted model.  I'll bore you with the details if you would like any further info.

Basically it would require you to visit the lab once for around 30 min, I will record you fat/lean percentage in the bod pod and with the use of skin fold callipers and give you the results straight away.  This is really useful data and something that I used a lot in training in the run up to the marathon."

Anyone out there who can help Phil please contact him on 07707 116630 (the email he gave me doesn't work)

I went in yesterday, it only takes around 30mins and gives some useful data (or dater acording to the US speaking bod pod) that will help with training.  Phil is keen to get as many people as possible as it makes it easier to significantly prove his results.

I had my appointment with the Pod and the calipers this morning. Yes, it's over and done with in 30 mins and provides very useful personal data as well as helping Phil out with his research project. For those in the know when it comes to statistics the larger the study group the better the results. For Phil this would ideally be in excess of 100 so don't be shy.

Torren, I was in excess of 100!

Gone on everyone, you know it makes sense and you can always pop to Cants shopping afterwards.

I had my test with Phil yesterday. Like others have said its quick and painless and you learn some useful information.

Phil has done just over 30 people now, so he still needs plenty of volunteers to reach his target of 100. So go on, give him a call!

Its a quick a easy and pain less test + knowing your fat % gives you some good info to help make you faster.  You need to be male and train over 6 hours a week.
