Dinosaur 10km Run Race

This race is held in memory of Club founder Roger Francis-Darby who passed away as a result of skin cancer 7 years ago.  Profits from the race are given to The Skin Cancer Charity and Deal Regatta.  For more information about skin care awareness and the best ways to protect yourself this summer please see the document attached below from The Skin Cancer Charity.

The 10km route takes in the Deal/ Walmer/ Kingsdown seafront passing both Deal and Walmer Castles and climbs into the lovely Kingsdown Village.

The entry is limited to 500 runners only, so early entry is recomended. The race is suitable for all standards of runner or jogger.

There is also a Junior 1500 metre run race which takes place on the seafront whilst the main race is taking place.

RACE INSTRUCTIONS

Race Permit Number 0432

Race HQ. At the Walmer Sea Scout Hut, Marine rd, The Strand , on the sea front near to Deal Castle.

Car Park Only limited parking is available on the public roads. There are car parks in Deal, limited additional Parking may be provided at Deal Castle.

Facilities Facilities at the Walmer Sea Scout Hut are limited, and runners are advised to arrive part changed. There are public toilets nearby and also at the Walmer Paddling Pool. Any clothing left at the hut is at your own risk. Competitors baggage area available at Sea Scout Hut. Sorry, but there are no showers available.

Start On the Promenade next to Walmer Sea Scout Hut at 10.00. Please assemble at approximately 9.50 near the start line. The first junior event starts at 9.15 at the same point. Please assemble at 9.05.

Course The course is certified accurate. SEAA no 02/055r. It is undulating with a flat 4k finish along the sea front, all the road sections are quiet but are not closed to traffic. There will be kilometre markers along the route, and will be fully marshalled; the course includes a short ‘dog leg’ after Kingsdown Hill. Cyclists will precede the first runner and follow the last runner. Please be aware of cyclists using the cycle path which runs parallel to the race route, for part of the course.

Drinks There will be two water drink stations on route at 4k &7k and one at the finish.

First Aid St Johns Ambulance will attend with radio links provided by Raynet.

Finish On the Promenade next to Walmer Sea Scout Hut. Mementos will be given to finishers of the 10k event. Medals & Goodie bags given to finishers of the fun run.

Trophies Awarded to various age categories including first married couple and an oldest finisher trophy.

1^st Boy/ Girl:- 6 & Under , / 7-8 / 9-10 / 11-12 / 13-14.

Dinosaur 10k Road Race

1^st Male overall.Male 1^st,2^nd,3^rd. Senior 18-39 / 1^st,2^nd, 3^rd Vets 40-49 / 1^st -2^nd Super Vet 50-59 .

1^st Over 60 + / 1^st Under 21, 15 – 20.

1^st Female overall.Female 1^st,2^nd,3^rd Senior 18-34 / 1^st,2^nd,3^rd Vets 35- 44 / 1^st – 2^nd Super Vet 45 -54 .

1^st Over 55 + / 1^st Under 21. 15 – 20.

Team 1^st 4 Males/ 3 females.

1^st Married couple and Oldest Finisher.

Awards At the Race HQ. at approx. 1130hrs. Please listen for an announcement. Entrants on the day will be eligible for prizes.

Results Race results will be available by post. Please provide a SAE or £1 at registration if you have not already done so.They will also be posted on the Deal Tri web site. www.dealtri.co.uk

Race Number & Registration

Please go to Race HQ to pick up your race number & Timing Chip. Your Race Number must be pinned to the front of your vest & your chip tied to your laces.  Any competitor not displaying a number at the finish will not receive a memento and will be disqualified from the race. Affiliated club team members must wear their club strip.

PLEASE FILL IN DETAILS ON THE BACK OF YOUR RACE NUMBER.

Rules And Permits.

The event will be run under U.K.A rules. A race permit, course measurement certificate and risk assessment will be on display at the Sea Scout Headquarters.

Safety.

Runners must not be accompanied by cyclists or dogs on any part of the course.

Regrettably participants in wheel chairs are not allowed to take part.

On various parts of the course the road is uneven and gravelly. PLEASE TAKE EXTRA CARE.

Please act on any PA announcements and any instructions given to you by race marshals or police.

Remember roads are open to traffic and the coastal path is also used by cyclists.

Junior Fun Run.

The race is open to all ages under 15. Ages between 11-14 start 9.15. Ages 10 & Under start 9.30.Please be sure that your child can complete the distance comfortably. Parents or guardians may escort their child around the course, but please start at the back, as to allow the older faster children to start unheeded. The course is very flat and is a simple straight run around a turn cone and back.

School Award

The school award will be given to the school with the most junior entries to the fun run. This will be presented with a cheque of £75.00 as a donation towards sports equipment for that School.

The engraved award is to be returned the following year ready for the winner in 2010.

Inflatable Dinosaur to be won!

Any Fun-run finisher may if they wish have their number put into a draw.

This will take place soon after the 10k start time.

Charitable Donations from profits of last years race amounted to £1500.00p being given to Skin Cancer Research & Prevention and a further £600.00 being given to the Deal, Walmer, & Kingsdown Regatta Association. Deal Tri, & on behalf of Kent & Canterbury Hospital & The Regatta Association would like to thank all sponsors & race entrants who helped made these donations possible.
